From this week's reading assignment, I learned what expository
reading is and how it can
play an important role in developing a
child's reading and comprehension
ability. The article defined
expository reading as an alternative approach to
developing
children's reading and comprehension skills and although complex,
its purpose is to actually provide them with a clearer perspective
on how to
successfully read various written texts while at the same
time making sure that
the student is able to also clearly understand
what he or she is doing during
the course of their reading. Such
examples as "compare and contrast"
along with "cause and effect"
perfectly exemplify the core essence
what epository assessment is
all about along with how and why it is designated
to help young
students with their literacy skills, especially through the use
of
graphic organizers that are normally provided in applying these
expository
assessments to the reading such as the "Venn Diagrams"
and "Idea
Webs" to name a few.
